# ObservePoint: pricing, alternatives and how it compares

ObservePoint scans the pages and journeys you define. Trackingplan reads the hits your real users send. This page covers what ObservePoint does, what it publishes about its pricing, and when each method fits.

## Two methods, two questions

ObservePoint

ObservePoint allows for precise monitoring of defined user journeys without needing web traffic. You script the paths, pick the devices and regions, and it reports which tags fired at each step, plus privacy and accessibility checks on the pages it scans.

Trackingplan

Trackingplan reads the hits your real users send to your analytics, marketing and product tools, infers the schema from that traffic, and tells you when a release, a tag or a consent state changes what arrives. Nothing to script, nothing to keep in step with the site.

## What ObservePoint is and who it fits

ObservePoint is an automated website scanner. Its own headline, in October 2026, reads “The Automated Website Scanner for Privacy, Accessibility, Tag Accuracy, and More.” Two kinds of work sit at its core: **audits**, which scan the pages of a site, and ** journeys**, which replay a user path you script, such as a checkout, and check which tags fired at each step.

Around them: privacy scans against GDPR, CCPA and CPRA, consent banner audits that test whether a CMP really blocks trackers before consent, accessibility scans against WCAG 2.1 AA, analytics validation for Adobe, Google and Tealium, a cookie and tag database, and the ObservePoint Debugger browser extension.

It fits teams that can write down what they want checked: a governance or QA team with a list of pages and funnels, a release gate on a staging site that has no traffic yet, a legal team that wants a dated record of what a scan found. Large web estates with many domains are its home ground.

## ObservePoint pricing: what is public

ObservePoint publishes a [pricing calculator](https://www.observepoint.com/pricing). It states no credit card, no feature restrictions and no per-seat cost, and it prices two things, per year:

- **Page scans.** The first 100 are free. Then $0.17 per page for the next 50,000, $0.12 for the next 500,000, $0.06 for the next million, $0.04 for the next five million, $0.03 beyond.
- **Journey runs.** The first 25 are free. Then bundles: 1,500 runs a year for $2,500, 6,000 for $5,000, 36,000 for $15,000, 144,000 for $30,000, each with a number of support requests.
- A VPN option at $2,000. The page calls itself “for reference only”, so a quote may differ.

The shape matters more than the figures: pricing scales with the number of journeys and tests you configure. Every new funnel, market, device or consent state you want covered is one more journey to script, schedule and pay for. The bill follows your test plan, not your traffic.

## Where ObservePoint is strong

- **Breadth without traffic.** A staging site, a landing page before launch or a microsite nobody visits yet can be scanned the same day.
- **One run, several checks.** Tags, cookies, consent, accessibility and page performance come out of the same scan.
- **A dated record.** Scheduled audits leave a history a legal or governance team can point to.
- **Free entry points.** Free scans on its site, a free tier in the calculator and a browser extension for one page at a time.

## Where synthetic journeys fall short

A journey sees the path you scripted, on the device, region and consent state you chose, at the time the schedule runs. Real users take other paths, on other devices, with other consent choices, between two runs. A tag that breaks on a route nobody scripted breaks quietly.

Journeys also age. When the page changes, the script fails before the tracking does, and someone has to fix it before it tests anything again. That upkeep is the operating cost of the method, and it grows with every funnel you add.

MicroAnalytics evaluated ObservePoint before choosing Trackingplan. Their story says it “provided solid monitoring capabilities” and that the team found it “too technical and time-consuming to set up”. What they wanted was “a solution that could look at real user sessions and provide live or near-live alerts when something wasn’t working as expected.” [Read their story](/customer-stories/how-microanalytics-is-helping-top-brands-manage-their-analytics-qa-more-effectively).

## How Trackingplan differs

Trackingplan does not replay journeys. One tag, SDK or server-side hook, and it reads the hits your real users send to 170+ analytics and ad providers: GA4, GTM, Adobe, Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, your CDP, your consent vendor. The events, properties and funnels are inferred from that traffic, so there is nothing to script and nothing to update when the site changes.

Because it watches every hit, it catches what no test plan predicted: a property that stopped arriving on Android after a release, a pixel firing before consent in one market, a purchase value that Meta receives with tax and GA4 without. Issues are grouped, assigned a root cause and sent to the team responsible for them.

Where it stops: a page nobody visits produces no hits to watch. For a pre-release check on an empty staging site, or an accessibility audit, a scanner is the right tool. Many teams run both, a scanner before the release and Trackingplan after it.

## ObservePoint alternatives

Looking for an ObservePoint alternative usually means one of three things.

- **Same method, another vendor.** [DataTrue](/alternative-to-datatrue) and [Tag Inspector](/alternative-to-tag-inspector) also scan pages and simulate users, DataTrue as a managed service with published plans, Tag Inspector with a privacy governance focus. [Seenaptic](/alternative-to-seenaptic) and [Data On Duty](/alternative-to-data-on-duty) run scheduled synthetic tests too.
- **Governance of the plan, not of the traffic.** [Avo](/alternative-to-avo) documents and versions the tracking plan; it does not check what production sends.
- **A different method.** Trackingplan monitors real traffic continuously, without journeys. The table below compares the two.

## ObservePoint vs. Trackingplan, feature by feature

| Feature | ObservePoint | Trackingplan |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Coverage & monitoring | | |
| Coverage | Journey-based. Every journey, URL and device must be defined by hand. | Every page, event and property your users touch, monitored without defining journeys or scripts. |
| Visibility | Relies on synthetic journeys. Only what is defined gets monitored. If a user takes a path you didn’t build, tagging gaps can go unnoticed. | Real-world, real-time visibility. It monitors everything users actually do, not just predefined paths. |
| Setup & maintenance | | |
| Initial setup | You define which scenarios to monitor. Each journey is scripted. | Automatic. The schema is inferred from real traffic; nothing to script. |

## What Trackingplan does instead

Error detection and root cause analysis on real traffic, in every environment, without scripting a journey.

- ### Plug & play installation

One tag, SDK or server-side hook. Events appear as traffic flows, on web, mobile and server.

- ### Automated discovery

Trackingplan discovers and monitors all the data your apps and websites send to your third-party integrations, whether analytics, marketing automation, pixels or campaigns, right after installation.

- ### Alerts with a cause

Every hit is audited around the clock. When an event, a property or a pixel changes, the issue arrives with its root cause and goes to the team responsible for it.

> It's not that I have to set up every single scenario. Trackingplan picks up everything automatically, allowing us to see the data, dig into it, look into specific events and sessions, and see everything automatically without us configuring things on our own.
