Introducing Trackingplan’s Session Finder

April 4, 2025

We’ve just released Trackingplan's Session Finder, a powerful new way to inspect and debug your tracking setup based on real user sessions — not simulated flows or synthetic data.

From broken funnels to mismatched events across platforms, Trackingplan’s Session Finder helps you see exactly how your tracking is performing in the wild. Get ready to level up your debugging workflow and boost your data accuracy.

What’s New

Session Finder lets you:

  • Search and filter real user sessions based on specific event conditions.
  • Inspect how each session was tracked across all your platforms — in real-time.
  • Identify missing events, spec mismatches, and cross-platform inconsistencies.
  • Explore the full user journey as it happened — step by step.

Whether you're validating a purchase funnel or troubleshooting a missing conversion in Meta, Session Finder gives you complete visibility into what your stack actually captured.

How It Works

Unlike traditional tools that employ synthetic data or simulated user scenarios, Trackingplan captures live navigation data from actual users visiting your sites or apps. That means:

  • No hypothetical paths.
  • No mock events.
  • Just real-world behavior — and a reliable data map exactly as it happened across all your analytics and marketing platforms.

Trackingplan’s Session Finder allows you to filter sessions using flexible conditions:

  • Look for sessions that include, exclude, or follow a specific sequence of events:
    • Sessions that include a purchase event in any of your providers, so you can build a complete data map of what each of your analytics and marketing platforms captured.
    • Sessions where a user triggered view_itemadd_to_cartpurchase in that specific order.
  • Combine filters using AND logic to uncover tracking issues and inconsistencies:
    • Sessions that contain an add_to_cart in GA4 but not in Meta.

Once you've applied your filters, you'll get a list of sessions that match your criteria. Click on any session to dive into a real user journey and:

  • Inspect every track associated with a session (raw and parsed payloads and DataLayer): Verify that all required events, parameters, and metadata were captured accurately throughout the session.
  • Identify spec mismatches or missing events: Detect sessions where key events are not firing.
  • Investigate broken funnels: Spot sessions that reached critical pages (like the thank you page) but are missing essential conversion events (purchase).
  • Cross-platform debugging: Compare how the same session was tracked across GA4, Meta, TikTok, and other platforms to identify inconsistencies.
  • Explore real user behavior step by step: No synthetic data or simulated flows — Trackingplan’s Session Finder shows exactly what a real user did and how your MarTech stack captured it.

Why It Matters

Before Session Finder, debugging tracking setups meant:

  • Jumping between multiple platforms.
  • Guessing where things might have gone wrong.
  • Working with synthetic flows that didn’t reflect reality.

Now, you can troubleshoot with confidence — using real sessions that show what users actually did and what your tools actually tracked.

Use Cases We Love

  • Validate your funnel tracking: Did the purchase event fire for all platforms when the user reached the thank you page?
  • Spot platform mismatches: Did Meta miss an add_to_cart even though GA4 caught it?
  • Debug edge cases fast: Find sessions that followed a specific event sequence to test whether your latest fix worked.

Ready to Try It?

You can access Session Finder right from your dashboard — just head over to the Reports page.

Whether you're validating conversions, debugging cross-platform issues, or mapping out the exact user journey, Session Finder is your new go-to tool for seeing exactly what happened — event by event, pixel by pixel.

Give it a try and start exploring your real user sessions.
